There is one meta-skill we really don’t want to miss out on
Metro Lines
I have always found metro systems easy to navigate. Even as a young traveller in a foreign city before smartphones were an idea in most people’s minds, I only had to spend a couple of minutes with an underground map to find my way around. The lines were readily identifiable, what with all their distinct colours. Connections were as simple as spotting the station at which two or more lines intersected. The hardest part is knowing which direction we should take, but even if we jumped on any of the two trains available for the line, the odds always give us at least a 50% probability of being right.

However, one thing I still struggle with is choosing the correct exit out of a station. Unlike my partner, who always seems to have a 3D model of the city in her head, I mostly pick one randomly if it is my first time at the station. Out of four, that is a 25% chance of success. In another example of Murphy’s law, I tend to end up the farthest from my destination more often than probability would suggest.
