When Lies Don’t Matter, They Never Go Away
Some are using the long-term for all the wrong reasons.
I’ve written — and I will write — again and again about the importance of the long term.
Dumb and numb
We live in an extremely short-sighted society in a very short-sighted time. I have the feeling that, in this land of the blind, the one-eyed man was forced into exile a long time ago.
For some reason, speed of information has conspired with the worst of us to make us focus only on that which is happening now, to disregard the causes and the consequences, to neglect anticipation and thoroughness — and, mostly, to act surprised all the time. Surprised… and numb.
Speed Of Information
Speed of information doesn’t need to be utilised this way. Speed of information allows us to check facts faster than ever, for instance. Speed of information allows us to better contrast information, for example. Breaking news was important when it drove sales. If your newspaper had the latest information when going to print, nobody else but your readers would get to read it and they would spread the word. Now everyone will read it everywhere before anyone has a chance to wonder why they’re looking at this precise piece of news in this precise platform.
