Trials And Tribulations Of The World’s Best Guitar
Why what we know isn’t necessarily the best regardless of how adamant we may be.
In June 2012 I bought the best acoustic guitar I have ever owned. I had never spent so much money on an instrument. I had never played an instrument that sounded and felt so good in my hands. I remember the connection was something magical, a bit like that connection between wizard and wand in the Harry Potter series.
That day, I had been trying several guitars within my budget and then, just because, I asked if I could play one from the next level, which was almost twice the price. That guitar felt so damned good. It was in an entirely different league. Naturally, I blew my budget and made a great purchase.
Almost ten years later, it isn’t in the same shape, of course, but it still sounds and feels better than any other guitar I’ve played. It is my guitar. It doesn’t blow my mind anymore, because one gets used to good things rather quickly, but even when it doesn’t feature in my productions, hardly a day goes by when I don’t play my favourite instrument even if only for five minutes. Well, you can imagine my horror when, a few months ago, the G-string, the third one from the bottom, started emit this awful buzz.
