The Truth Is Out There When We Recognise The Lies In Here
Everything we’ve ever achieved required leaving comfort behind. We need to ditch perfectionism fast.
I lived in the lie of perfectionism for a long time. The lie itself is rather arrogant: it assumes we can actually be perfect.
However, this isn’t the worst that perfectionism has in store for us. Much more detrimental than arrogance, perfectionism is a powerful shield against external criticism and ridicule that soon becomes our biggest obstacle when it comes to making our work public.
Of course, with self-discipline and effort, we can improve our craft; we can learn from others and polish our skills. Nevertheless, unless we put our work out, unless we show it to others and face our fear of rejection, we won’t be able to deliver our true best.
There is something about the pressure of having to put ourselves out there, a vulnerability that leaves us with no other option but to be our best versions, to produce our best work, to level up to those we will be compared to.
Yes, it is scary outside, it is cold outside, it is harsh outside. Yet, it is only outside that we can create what we’ve come here to create, that we can mean something to someone, that we can be respected.
We’ve already been outside many times. We’ve had to go outside every time we’ve needed something, every time something has been new, every time something has been worth it.
The lies may be within us, but the truth is still out there.
