The School Of Tomorrow Is More Important Than We Think

We should give children a chance to save themselves even if it is just because we know they are the only ones that can also save… us.

We spend years learning how to pass tests, how to behave and, generally, how to do as told when told to do so.

Then we face the world. And our education is decent for typical jobs, jobs as understood since the Industrial Revolution: we know how to stick to times, we know how to follow directions and, if lucky, we even know how to write directions to be followed by others. We know what is required of us today, for this, right now.

But then we face the world, and there’s more to the world than industrial thinking. So we struggle with relationships and sudden changes and anomalies and anything that is unexpected. Great tacticians have lost great wars because their enemies didn’t behave as they should have.

We’re not educated in systems thinking. Every subject is closed off. Not only is there no emphasis on the interconnection of knowledge, but this interconnection isn’t mentioned in the first place! We’re supposed to learn things by heart in case they’re on a test, a test that will lead to a certificate, a certificate that will open a door to an industrial job.
