The Importance Of Understanding The Context We Belong To
If it’s so essential, why do we continuously choose to ignore it?
Something extraordinary occurs when we understand a context. When we know the relevant players, their ultimate intentions and the obstacles and advantages of everybody involved in any given conflict, we can decide intelligently about whether to take part in it and, if so, how. When we are aware of the risks and potential consequences of failure or the precise rewards and odds of success, we can make wise calls about how to approach a transcendental moment. In short, it pays to learn about our surroundings if we aim to lead intentional lives.
While this may seem obvious, we ignore much about most aspects of our lives. For instance, we don’t know how much people earn for doing certain jobs, how much it would cost to invest heavily in an expensive product rather than spend small amounts here and there that will eventually multiply our final expenditure, what life was like for those who have emigrated to our country, when it is likely for the economy to slump or boom, or why we feel the way we do. These are only a few examples that paint a blurry picture of the vastness of our ignorance. They are but some of the causes of most of our poor decisions, affecting critical elements of our lives such as how much money we keep…
