The amount of hate and love we are exposed to in our upbringing dictates who we become.
Some are born poor, and some are born rich. Some are born into artistic families, and some are born into the most insensitive ones. Some are born in peace, and some are born in war. These are the circumstances in which we come into the world. We have no choice. We play no role.
Undoubtedly, circumstances condition our upbringing as much as they do the mental and physical health of our parents. However, circumstances alone don’t explain everything. They give an advantage to some and a disadvantage to others; putting in the same effort and accounting for the same talent, circumstances will make all the difference. The unprivileged runner cannot beat their privileged counterpart if they both exert themselves in the same manner and were born with the same physical gifts. Yet, with enough talent or effort disparity, it is easy to see the illusion that everything is possible.
In my experience, there is one element that can make all the difference: the presence or absence of love and hate in our upbringing. Love and hate don’t care for wealth or status. Indeed, those obsessed with wealth and status often find themselves loving the wrong things and hating their peers. In this…
