Before

Before the world became hyperconnected, we tended to compare ourselves to those physically around us. Our bullseyes and our misfires happened on a smaller scale, and we assessed them in the manageable context of our reality. We didn’t have as many paths at our disposal so it was still possible to believe we could forge our own. We didn’t know much, but what we did we knew to be true. As the world opened up for everybody, I believe the benefits surpassed the disadvantages by far. Yet, some things became harder, blurrier, vaguer.

Success And Failure

Take success and failure, for instance. Never before had we felt so much pressure. Never before had we been in touch with so much success and failure. The need to succeed is harder than ever, in whatever it is we want to do, and there is always an example of someone doing better than us. Some avid marketers have taken advantage of this to make their fortunes by advising others on how to succeed. There are so many ideas out there as to what constitutes success that anyone might feel overwhelmed enough to hire a guide.

The necessity to succeed in our field of choice has never been greater, and most of us go about it the wrong way. We…
