Young Eccentrics

I was still very young when I realised I was an eccentric. I might be a subdued eccentric in that I do not often display my bizarreness in public, but an eccentric nonetheless. One of the few things that have kept me connected to a part of the mainstream is my passion for football. Most of my new friends have trouble believing this, and they often forget it until something reminds them of this peculiarity.

It’s How It Makes Us Feel

Indeed, there is a disregard for sport among people of a certain cultural level. I will give it to them: it is a meaningless and random activity. But then, I could argue that so is love. For those in a relationship, we know that our partner probably isn’t objectively the most attractive, intelligent and funny person on the planet, just as they know that we probably aren’t, either. Yet there is no more attractive, intelligent and funny person for each other. It is a genuine, random feeling we cannot help. It gives meaning and purpose to each of us. Those without love — romantic or otherwise — are doomed to wander, aimless, and lost. Sport is not significant per se, but because of the passion and emotion it generates. Football isn’t the point…
