How To Make Your Own Tide
Can we actually make our own luck? Can we actually count on the divine? I think so, but it may have nothing to do with fortune or gods…
It isn’t easy to follow our dreams and do what we want to do. For every dream, a thousand nightmares; for every will, a thousand misgivings.
And yet, once we have embarked on our quest, there is hardly an alternative. In despair, the religious turn to god and the irreligious turn to luck, or any other idea of an almighty force, out of our control, someone or something to propel us to our objectives now that we have no energy left.
Personally, I think of it as a tide. I imagine myself in the desert, lost, thirsty, exhausted, and I imagine this body of water coming towards me, not an angry tsunami but a gentle tide to push me forward to where I need to be. The best part is that I think we are responsible for the tide, that we can create it or at least summon it when in need.
How?
Well, firstly, it’s important to understand that this tide isn’t a superior being that comes to our rescue, but a sort of natural occurrence than we simply get to ride. Hence my marine analogy.
