Have You Ever Made This Type Of Decision?

It’s not the lack of choice, the abundance of stubbornness or some unscrupulous ambition that compels big personalities.

Have You?

Have you ever faced a decision you knew you had to make regardless of the terrible consequences it would have? I don’t mean one where you didn’t have a choice. I don’t mean one that you would make out of stubbornness or fear of losing face. I don’t mean one where the end would justify the means. I mean making a decision because you had to make it. The emphasis is both on you and on the inescapable obligation to make the decision.

Choice

Contrary to what many will claim, most of the time we do have a choice. Unfortunately, sometimes we don’t have a choice that satisfies us. It’s not the same. Frequently, we have many bad choices and we must pick one. However, even when presented with bad choices, we have the choice of not choosing. Neutrality and inaction are concepts about which we don’t talk much. They aren’t glamorous. They often don’t make us proud. Yet we stay neutral and choose not to act more than the opposite. This article isn’t about neutrality or inaction, though. I am talking about those of us who have acted decisively in a way that wasn’t pleasant because we felt we had to.
