Have you also been scared of learning too much of the “technical stuff” related to your craft, thinking it might suffocate any present talent? I was definitely scared of learning music theory in case it might trap my creativity. Now I realise it was a lot of nonsense, but only because I threw myself at art when I definitely didn’t know any better!
