Vigilant Universe

I have never had much time for international days. I find the entire idea unbearably silly. International day of this, international day of that — it reminds me of how so many people will do a couple of good deeds over Christmas that allow them to continue to be pricks for the rest of the year and sleep soundly at night. Naturally, the universe — ever vigilant — has me publishing an article about listening on International Listening Day. It wasn’t planned. It just happened.

The Cons

I have written extensively about the benefits of creating constantly. Since I try to practice what I preach, I have been writing one of these articles every day for almost three years. That’s a lot of words spun, a lot of ideas woven and a lot of neuronal connections made. I still recommend the practice to anyone willing to take the challenge: the improvement is palpable and priceless. However, one of the cons is that, generally, the more we speak, the less we listen. It is inherent to our limited brain capacity that transmission comes at the expense of reception.
