Freedom From Survival Would Let Us Build A Better World
Certain things happened this week that made me wonder about a different world.
The Universe Got Impatient
Sometimes reality aligns certain facts in a way that one cannot escape finding meaning. It is almost as though the universe got impatient at our lack of acuteness and handed us an answer to a question we hadn’t even begun to ask.
These are the facts I got this week:
1) where I live there are more jobs than applicants after the pandemic,
2) I was asked to sign a petition for the UK government not to scrap the £20 uplift added to its universal credit programme due to the current the crisis,
3) one of the podcasts I listen to covered the topic of universal credit, and
4) a friend shared some thoughts about how universal basic income would cause a major paradigm shift by which people would choose whether they want to work or not.
As an avid sci-fi reader, I know many novels depict futures with an overpopulated Earth where the majority of people have no job but receive some basic income, just enough to put food in their bellies and a roof over the heads.
