Focus On The Cracks Or The Light Seeping Through
Thoughts on why we rush to voice our discontent but bid our time when it comes to share our praise
Negative Feedback
Negative feedback travels much faster than positive feedback ever could. I learned this as part of a tourism seminar I had to attend in a previous life.
My interest in the industry was already waning, but this little piece of truth stuck with me, because it had as much to do with feedback as it did with human nature. Now, my interest in human nature has only increased with the years: I believe I have a love/hate relationship with the human condition that at times has verged on the toxic but that a couple of albums later I’ve managed to make peace with.
Why is it that having an outstanding service is much less likely to spur a passionate reaction while a negative experience will have us shouting at a screen faster than we can say refund?
Differing Emotions
It has to do with emotion, of course, but there is no reason why a good experience should trigger a weaker emotion than a bad one. The euphoria of a first kiss isn’t any less than the pain of a final breakup.
