Are You Just Paranoid Or Actually Being Followed?
Paranoia may breed torment, but it also holds the key to our survival. Let’s explore the darkness of our primal logic.
Humans are extremely fast at spotting patterns. With very little information, we can fill in the gaps efficiently and anticipate events. We are great weavers of logic and inference, which is what propelled us to the very top of the food chain. Sometimes there is no lion behind the bushes, but when there is, only those paranoid enough to escape promptly made it to tell the story.
Yes, we are the children of paranoia.
“Paranoid? Probably. But just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean there isn’t an invisible demon about to eat your face.”
― Jim Butcher, Storm Front
Those who constantly look over their shoulders will most often be wrong, but those who never do won’t last very long to tell us not to worry.
Well, this logic can be applied to almost any situation. Just because we open up about our feelings doesn’t mean the person we love will also love us in return, but if we don’t, it is likely we will never find out. It can also be applied to success: not everyone who never gives up makes it, but those who do throw in the towel never do.
